COMMENT ON SYAMIMI MUSA

I agreed with syamimi when she said that whenever she give speech, she tend to be very nervous, whereas whenever she were ask to evaluate others she become less professional as she put too much empathy to the presenter. I also have the same feeling. It is not easy to evaluate people and to be evaluated by others. We have to think carefully before doing any action. She was right when she said that we become more professional with the help of a ‘Peer Evaluation Checklist’ given by our teaching the Language of Drama (EDU3217) lecturer.

COMMENT ON MARLISA AHMAD SAKTIAN

I am totally agreed with her in her post on the reflection on the handout. I think that she is right when she said that the handouts really help me in understand the subject better. This is because, the handout’s details are arranged and there are spaces provided so that it is easy for the students to write additional information. Beside that, the handouts are very easy to understand because there are using point form and simple sentences.

COMMENT ON MARLISA AHMAD SAKTIAN

When I read her post on her opinion on live stage, I found out that we have a similar thought. I think that doing a live stage performance in front of the class is also an interesting activity. Here, we have a chance to show our capability in doing some play. Like what marlisa said in her post, this kind of activity is so exciting because everyone had their own style in acting.

COMMENT ON SITI ZAHIRAH NOR

I have read siti zahirah nor comment on how to be evaluated by others. According to her post, she said that from the comment that they received from their peer was very encouraging as some of them jotted down their comment and encourage them to do better. I think that, all the comment from the peer is from their own opinion on us. They have seen how we present at the front, so they know how to comment on us. This will really help us to do something better in the next lesson.

COMMENT ON SITI ZAHIRAH NOR

I agree with Siti Zahirah Nor, on the comments she makes on a play “Pygmalion". I also have read the book before and found out that there is lot of the scene in the book has been cut in the movie. At first, I was quite frustrated but then I think the scene that has been cut in the movie do not affect the plot of the story, so the ‘Pygmalion’ in the movie still as interesting as ‘Pygmalion’ in the book.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

This is one of my favourite movies. A streetcar named desire is a story full with dramatic and action but still got the right message to the audients. I like the way the director of this movie convey his brilliant idea with all the main character in the story. A Streetcar Named Desired is about Blanche who comes to New Orleans to see her sister Stella and met her husband Stanley Kowalski. As the play progresses, readers get to know more about Blanche and the type of person she is. The thing is, Blanche always dreams of to be someone else, someone who is just not herself. She lives in her own world of imagination. Blanche is the protagonist of the movie but she turned into madness at the end of the movie. She cannot forget her past and accept the present world because she lost the love of her life and she feels that she fails as a woman because her late husband is a bisexual. The present to her is very painful and she prefers to live in her own world of imagination.

PYGMALION

Finally, I got an opportunity to watch a play entitle Pygmalion. Before this, I just heard it but never had a chance to watch it. As for me this movie was quite exciting with its interesting plot. Pygmalion is a story about Liza who is from a low class society and a phonetic professor, Henry Higgins. Liza has asked the professor to change her. She has challenged the professor to teach her how to speak ‘standard’ English and how to behave like a lady. Henry Higgins manages to teach her to become a lady and throughout the learning process, he falls in love with her. He is very fortunate because Liza too loves him. This is a movie for all. If you think you want to get change, you better watch the movie. Who knows maybe you will find your mr. or mrs. right throughout the process hehehe….

HOW IT IS TO BE EVALUATED BY OTHERS

As for me, I want people to evaluate me by looking on how my whole presentation is in the front of the students. I need my students to understand me and look on how I convey the idea to them. By doing the best presentation, the students will get more information easily because I can gain their attention through the lesson. Beside that, I also would like my supervisor to evaluate me based on how I communicated with the student. It is important to show our body language and eye contact to the students because this is one of the ways we know whether the students understand or not with our instruction. Then, I also believe that students and teacher have to work together. Meaning that, students have to ask teacher a question if they do not understand what the teachers try to tell them. In order to make sure that students will ask me a question, I will give them a chance to ask me a question and I will try my best to explain to them until they get my lesson or my instruction. Furthermore, as a good teacher, I will move around my class and go for my students that needed a help. It could be hard for them to ask me a question,

HOW YOU WANT TO EVALUATED OTHER STIMULATED

In my opinion, it is not an easy work to evaluate other people because I don’t think I am the right person to evaluate other people’s work but then I think I can still have my own point of view in other people stimulated. For example, how they are try to attract my attention with their teaching at their set induction stage. It is always important to attract your student in your set induction. Then, the usage of the voice is also important. Teacher has to make sure that they have gives an instruction with a clear voice. This is very important because this is the only way student will be able to understand what teacher is asking them to do.
Beside that, as a teacher, we have to be careful with our appearance. Teacher should be a role model to the student and that is one of the important elements that I will look for when I have a chance to evaluate my friends. Then, eye contact and body language is also important. Teacher need to communicate with their students. That is some of the element or aspect that I will use to evaluate other stimulated.

YOU THINK MACBETH IS A VIOLENT?

I have seen a movie entitle ‘MacBeth’ and I am truly believe that this is one of the violent movie that I ever watched. Sounds creepy right? But in today’s world of new movie, there is lot of other violent happened. But I still agreed that MacBeth is cruel even to his own people. For example, in this movie, MacBeth showed his violent through the King when he is willing to kill him with the help of his wife in order to replace him as a king. After that, both of them get haunted by their acts and Macbeth becomes a very cruel King to his people when he killed many of his citizens. Then, his wife becomes crazy and commits suicide by falling from her room. After that, the late King’s sons attacked Macbeth’s place and Macduff manage to kill him and the late King’s sons get back his throne.

WALLAH

We have been asked by our lecturer to watch a play written by Shakespeare. I was quite excited at first because I think this play would be as great as the previous Shakespeare’s play that I have watched before but then when I arrived at the play (I’m a bit late, the play was already on), I was quite shocked because the title of the story is ‘Wallah’ (I thought it’s a ‘war lord’-I know, my fault, Shakespeare won’t do a play like that hehehe…).
Actually, this story is about a family troupe of English actors travelling in India. Tony Buckingham and his wife Carla are the actor-managers of the troupe. They travel around the towns and villages giving performances of Shakespearean plays. They have acted his play in India and one day, the couple's daughter Lizzie Buckingham, falls in love with Sanju, a wealthy young Indian playboy who is also have a relationship with Manjula, the glamorous Bombay film star. We can see the changing face of India through their travels. For examples, Maharajas become hotel owners, the old is replaced by the new, sports become more important than culture and the theatre is replaced by Bollywood movies. Through this play, I manage to see the costumes during the Shakespeare’s time and can actually watch the stage performance in it.

TEIRESIAS

In Greek mythology, Teiresias was a blind prophet of Thebes. He is famous for being transformed into a woman for seven years. He was the son of the Shepard Everes and the nymph Chariclo; Tiresias participated in fully seven generations at Thebes. Teiresias is one of the important characters that bring out the prophecy of Oedipus wretched fate. Teiresias is being respected by the people in Thebes for his prophecy; a clear vision of his insight.
Teiresias is not blind by birth but it is believed that he is blinded by Athena because he accidentally came across her while she was bathing naked. His mother, Chariclo who is Athena’s nymph begged her to undo the curse but she was not able to undo it, instead she gave Teiresias the gift of prophecy.
Teiresias, who is the prophet in the country of Thebes; knew everything about Oedipus’s fate. He is the one who killed his own father, King Laios and the one who slept with his own mother, Iocaste; without knowing that they are his parent. He is intellectually blind as well as physically blind, but Teiresias is not. Although Teiresias is physically blind, he is mentally good and that is why he became the prophet of Thebes.

Blog 4 : LIVE STAGE DIRECT

LIVE STAGE DIRECT

Welcome again to my blog and this time I can’t wait to write in my blog because during our 4th week, we have been asked by our lecturer to have a live stage direct. We are required to read a dialogue and do some live stage direct in front of other students. Before that, lecturer has introduced us with closed text and open text. From this, I can identify which is open test and which is closed text. After that, lecturers asked us to find a partner and read the text entitle Bingo by Edward Bond. Then, we have been asked to rehearse a performance of the scene. There is a variety of performances in all aspect including intonation and emphasis and pace and attitude. From this live stage performance, we can create our own situation. There is students who perform the scenario of the student during a test and a writers in a cafĂ©. For me, I have chosen to perform the scenario of pal in a restaurant. This live stage directs is a medium for us to get closer with the element of drama and theatre.

Blog 3 : REFLECTION ON POEMS

REFLECTION ON

FOUR AGES OF MAN, MACBETH LIFE’S BREATH CANDLES AND SOPHOCLES – OEDIPUS REX RIDDLE SPHYNX.

This time in my third blog, I would like to give a reflection on four ages of man, Macbeth life’s breath candles and Sophocles-Oedipus Rex Riddle Sphynx. From these poems, I can say that these poems show how the poets perceive their life. Most of the poem try to tell us that that in this life, we cannot change our fate. No matter what happen, we have to accept our destiny. Our life has already arranged by the almighty since we’re not yet born. We have to face all the challenge in our life because that is how we perceive life.

Blog 2 : Hand outs on Drama

HAND OUTS ON DRAMA

This is my second blog and this time I will give a reflection on hand outs on drama that we have already discuss during our second week. Lecturer has give us a hand outs that contain the elements of drama and theatre. From this, I have a information about the history of theatre that include the Greek theatre, Roman theatre, and Mediavel theatre. Besides, there is also an element of drama which is the drama from 18th-20th century. There is a tragedy drama, comedy drama, tragicomedy drama and farce drama. From the hand outs, I can identify which is the tragedy and which is comedy drama because there is an explanation on both elements. I also can find the different between tragedy drama and comedy drama. I think that hand outs has helped me understand about learning this EDU3217 courses.

Blog 1 : Exercise on Point of View

EXERCISE ON POINT OF VIEW

Hi everyone. Finally, I got a chance to have my own blog. Although this is a blog that I created regarding to EDU3217 courses which is teaching the Language of drama but I’m still happy to have this blog. For my first blog, I would like to talk about the task that we have done on our first week for this semester. Our lecturer has given an exercise on point of view. I was quite shock when all of sudden we have to answers and complete that exercise. I thought in the first class, lecturer will lecture about it first but then I was wrong. We are able to complete the exercise and apart from that, we have a detail knowledge about point of view. A narrator in a story is the story point of view which is the vantage point from which event are presented. It contains first person narrator, second person narrator and third person narrator. The form persona is used for such narrators. A point of view is very important in a story because it can help us understand the story clearly.
